I am most impressed with the Cantonese language, which has nine tones. I discovered while teaching at the University of Hong Kong, that in spite of my best attempts at pronunciation, I could make very embarrassing mistakes. What is more amazing is that the Cantonese people can sing a beautiful melody and coordinate it with the rising and falling tones required of the language itself. This is partly to express my respect for the Chinese people, but more so my respect for my dear Jesus.
