The Personality of a Human Spirit

Humans are created in the image of God. Like God, we are 3 persons in one; we are body, soul (mind, personality, intelligence) and spirit. As our body and soul is unique, so is our spirit. Our spirit has a personality.
God’s Holy Spirit is not an “it”; to describe God’s Spirit as an ‘it’ is very insulting. God’s Spirit has a personality and very likely has emotions. After all, the scripture says, “Grieve not the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit must become really upset when we quite unnecessarily keep doing stupid things. God’s Holy Spirit is also comforting. There is a deep sense of being enfolded by the Holy Spirit who watches over us and cares for us.
A person comes into being when there is a 3 way fusion of egg, sperm and spirit. God from his throne looks at the fusion of egg and sperm and says, “That body needs this spirit.” The spirit is carefully matched with the body and soul.
This being the case there is no reason to believe that the child’s human spirit is the same age as his body. Children must have a spirit that has been in existence in heaven before that spirit is fused with the body. The fusion of the body and spirit create a soul, or a personality. It is partly the genes of the body and partly the uniqueness of the spirit that creates the human that is unlike any other human that has or every will exist.
There is a remarkable maturity in some newborns. It’s almost as if they are “trailing the dust of heaven,” They can comprehend things so wisely, they look at you so steadily, they are absorbing and comprehending information in an increasingly rapid way.
One can behold the maturity of a baby’s spirit by looking at the wisdom of children who are very handicapped. You can see the maturity of a baby’s spirit when they can recognize the things of God so readily. I know a child who as an infant, beholding the painting of the last supper, immediately recognized Jesus. It’s as if he could remember having encountered Jesus in heaven.
Because of the uniqueness of a person’s spirit, it will be possible to recognize each other in heaven, even though our body and our personality may be very different.
If babies’ spirits don’t automatically go to heaven, you can understand the enormous magnitude of the problem when millions of babies’ spirits are set free of their bodies when they are aborted. If these spirits are circulating in the world, yearning to go to heaven, they should be adopted and committed to Jesus. If not, is it possible, because of their bitterness, they become evil spirits? Is the devil now amassing an army of the embittered spirits of babies to create an army with which to once again confront God?
Granted, this is somewhat speculative, but it is worth thinking about because the implications are so astonishing.
