The Cause and Possible Cure for the Physician Made Abortion Epidemic

Abortion is and Always was a Medical Issue

Not so long ago or far away.
Nineteen yr. recently pregnant student from influential home. (19)
Well-respected family doctor, physician to her family for at least 25 years. (Doc)
Doctor's beautiful wife of 10 years. (wife)

19 "Please doctor, I must get rid of it. I want to finish my studies"
Doc. "No I'm sorry. I don't do abortions. How is your arm now?"
19 "You don't understand, I will be a huge embarrassment to my family."
Doc. "I know and respect your parents. They will get used to being grandparents"
19 "I have become so depressed, I can't think".
Doc. "There is no scientific evidence that an abortion will help you".
19 "I have been having suicidal thoughts."
Doc. "Abortion increases the chance of suicide. It is exactly the wrong thing to do".
19 "I know a woman who told me you did one for her".
Doc. "No. I will not do an abortion for you".
"Nurse, show this young lady out and bring in my next patient".

A few days later.
Doc. "Now what do you want?"
19 "Did my father phone?"
Doc. "Yes and my answer is still No".

A few more days later.
19 looking very haggard and weeping bitterly
Doc. "Yes and your mother phoned. All right, stop crying. Come back here at 9:30. The side door will be open. Will you or your father pay my fee?"
19 "How much?"
Doc. "$1000 in cash."
19 "That won't be a problem. Oh Doc you have saved my life. Thank you so much" (smack on his kisser)

Late that evening at Doc's home
Wife. "You are late again. You told me you were not going to do abortions but you keep doing more. Now you have a reputation, other docs will refer to you"
Doc. "Well, she was suicidal. I didn't have a choice"
Wife "I thought suicide was a contraindication"
Doc. " That's only what the text books say. It is still up to the individual physician's judgment. In my judgment her abortion was indicated. If the College gets nosy, and I don't think they will, that is my official position."
Wife. "You don't think the college will ask why you didn't practice evidenced based medicine?"
Doc. "No I'm pretty sure they won't. You see, she was the daughter of the president of the college".
Wife. "Besides she was very pretty. (You've got lipstick on your collar) and she paid $ 1000 in new $ 100 bills. Right?"
Doc. "Right. Yes its all about woman's rights, right and I saw you eyeing that ermine coat in Eatons, right?"

And so modern medicine was quickly perverted.
First came the exceptions, well paid for. (All of them front street abortions but some became infected and antibiotics were not easy to come by.
Then the judges and the medical licensing bodies failed to prosecute except on the rare occasion when a woman died from front street abortions.
Then the individual physicians began telling them-selves then each other the rationalizations they used to salve their burning consciences.
Then the women's rights gave them the political and social support they needed.
Then university faculties were so complicit they dispensed with the Hippocratic oath. Then a few physicians who did many abortions became heroes in the view of the feminists so they became bold specialists who never felt they needed to feel ashamed. Then the rest of physicians who did a few abortions breathed a sigh of relief and stopped aborting but made many referrals.
Then almost every physician lost his/her voice of reason because they lost their humanity. All they had to do was to refer a few for abortions, or watch out of curiosity while some small infant was being technically murdered and they lost their knee jerk response of defending the helpless and substituted self justifying rationalizations.
In this manner the practice of abortion became a medical aberration that affects the whole world with destruction and disease. Having made the problem, do you think medicine will correct it?
